The German people like to write it the German way - Katharina. I am trying to make it easier for them by leaving out the emphasis (í). It doesn't help they still write it wit "h" although Katarina is also a German name.^^ The "h" has no influence on the pronounciation but still, having germanized my name that way, makes me upset. Or maybe it's their ignorance that makes me flip out. I don't know. Maybe I should not be depending on details that much. Because they do not like me correcting them when it comes to spelling my name. They seem irritated a bit, making me uncomfortable.
When someone introduces himself to me and their name is difficult to remember for me due to spelling, I always say: "Wait, can you write it down for me?" They are amused at first but then they say that noone was ever interested to spell/pronounce their name correctly when introduced. And they really write it down are thankful that someone cares. It's a beautiful moment. And what's more our communication is more open after that.
Maybe I gonna let them to do so (after reading other comments, it could be worse haha) and watch who cares and who cares not. Because people who care about things like your name are often great listeners and great friends as well.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11116751033913570609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1355643440964865816.post-23713391791186221542018-03-11T13:42:54.906+00:002018-03-11T13:42:54.906+00:00Je suis de votre avis. Our brain somehow just let's us know when something is spelled wrong. For Dyslexics they need tools. My daughter's tutor teaches her rules, like 2 vowels go walking, but also teaches her how to spot the exceptions. She does not say every set of 2 vowels together is part of two vowels go walking. If you have a good phonics program and teach it fully there are very few exceptions.
